I'm excited to introduce a brand new course! My name is Reuben, and I'm a jazz pianist in Brisbane. I have studied jazz piano for three years at the Queensland Conservatorium. With a strong foundation in jazz piano, I'm eager to share my passion and knowledge through our upcoming 10-week Jazz Fundamentals Course.
Course Content
This course is designed for anyone interested in deepening their understanding and skills in jazz. Over ten weeks, we'll learn fundamental theory and improvisational techniques essential for jazz. Each evening session lasts two hours and includes both practical and theoretical components. During the practical component, you'll play jazz in an ensemble with fellow students. The theory component will cover key concepts such as guide tones, different types of chords, scales, rhythms, and improvisational techniques. The course will conclude with a public concert that you can invite your family and friends to.
This course is perfect for someone who is a jazz novice, to someone who has some experience of jazz but wants to build their skills. All ages are welcome. To join, you should have at least two years of experience playing your instrument.
What You'll Gain
Improvisational skills: Grow in your knowledge of improvisational techniques and learn how to expand your vocabulary on your instrument.
Theory: Gain a solid understanding of essential jazz theory, including chords, scales and rhythm.
Ensemble Experience: Playing jazz in an ensemble setting will allow you to practise musically interacting with others in real time.

The estimated cost is $350 per person, with the final price to be confirmed.
Where
The course will be held on the southside of Brisbane, with potential locations including Mount Gravatt and East Brisbane.
When
The course will run for 10 weeks during Term 4 (30th September-6th December). It will take place on a weekday evening, with the exact time and day to be determined.
